Oh noes! Disaster has befallen our Green Mountain polity!
Bernie Sanders, stout defender of the Common Folk, has revealed himself to be just another pawn of corporate America!
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday joined utility and environmental group leaders to tout the benefits of ”smart” meters, the new generation of digital electric measuring devices designed to save energy and lead to better management of the power grid.
”The bottom line is that smart grid offers real benefits for consumers and the environment,” Sanders said.
Well, that’s it, then. Bernie’s not pure enough to be in the club.
I jest, of course. I’m with Bernie 100% on this. And his support for smart meters ought to give pause to those who fight against them.
It probably won’t, but it should.
to hold his feet to the fire. Bernie pinches himself every day thinking how lucky he was to suck in the Democrats.
I’ve spent years representing low-income people and their interests in utility proceedings, and there is reason to question how great the whole smart meter thing is.
It’s possible that a change to the system that is good for the system overall will not provide benefits to a certain segment, like low-income people, that justifies the costs they will pay for the system “improvements”. This is particularly true if smart meters are used to make it easier to disconnect people for nonpayment, or to facility prepayment requirements.
Bernie’s blattering support for the smart meters is only one of his corporate interests. His unflinching support for the F-35 is an indication that the old Bernie has gone over to the K-Steet side. A politician can ony talk out of both sides of his mouth for so long and then the voters come to their senses. At a recent “Brunch with The Mouth” aka Bernie session in Burlington, Sanders tells one questioner who asks about the F-35, “Don’t vote for me, I’ll win anyway.” All politicians have a shelf-life. Bernie has out-lived his.
