More “comedy” from the Rutland County GOP

So yesterday we learned that unsubtle racism is the Rutland County Republican Party’s idea of “comedy based in reality.” (The offensive “joke” was scrubbed from the RCGOP’s official Facebook page after we revealed it here. Courage of your convictions, RCGOP.)

Here’s another sample of the RCGOP Facebook page’s comic stylings:

Bwahahahaha. Oh, you Rutland County GOPpies, you know how to tickle a funny bone, that’s for sure. Hey, y’got any of them pictures of a watermelon garden on the White House lawn? That’s a real knee-slapper. Bone-in-the-nose Obama? Always good for a laugh. Obama with a Hitler mustache? Yeah, that’s political commentary with tongue in cheek.

Hey, Wendy Wilton, candidate for Treasurer and Rutland County Republican in good standing: Got anything to say about your compatriots’ Facebook page?

I’ll just add one little bit of historical fact to this diary. If you really want to choose Presidents based on military service — as opposed to how purty they look in a uniform — then Jimmy Carter would have beaten Ronald Reagan (who spent World War II doing stateside PR for the armed services) and John Kerry would have trounced G.W.

  1. Maybe they should add a picture of Mitt Romney with his white shirt, dark trousers, tie, and Book of Mormon to show his “service” to his country.  Candidates who support wars should lead by example.

  2. Reagan never saw overseas service in WWII.  He had some kind of physical thing that classified him for ‘limited service’ in the US military.  So he spent 3-plus years in uniform doing PR and ‘movie consulting’ and war bond drives for the Army and Air Force.  Rose to the rank of captain doing this stuff, but a recommendation in ’45 for his promotion to major was turned down.

Nixon served in the Us Navy as a supply and logistics officer in the Southwest Pacific theatre.  He saw no combat.

Johnson was also a naval officer in the Southwest Pacific, sent there by Roosevelt to ‘survey’ the state of American fighting power there.  His recommendations to FDR helped lead to more and better manpower and equipment (better fighter planes) for the Southwest Pacific theatre.  He reportedly flew on ONE combat mission in a B-26, which turned back due to engine problems, so he saw no actual combat.

Carter served in the US Navy also, on surface ships and subs in both the Atlantic and Pacific.  In the early fifties he was looking for a command from Admiral Hyman Rickover, father of the Nautilus, America’s first nuclear sub.  But instead he was assigned as a nuclear reactor ‘fireman’ when a Canadian reator had a meltdown in ’52.  Allegedly he went down into the reactor in a protective suit for some seconds to assist in disassembling the reactor.

Jerry Ford served with distinction aboard the light carrier Monterey, and saw action all over the Pacific from late ’43 to Dec. of ’44 (including the great carrier battle of the Philippine Sea in June of ’44).  After that asshole Halsey ran the Third Fleet into a typhoon in Dec. of ’44, the Monterey caught fire and Halsey suggested to its captain that he abandon ship.  Instead, the captain had Ford lead a fire brigade that saved the ship.

Old George Bush was a carrier pilot (TBFs) on the light carrier San Jacinto, and saw a lot of action in the Pacific in ’44 (over 50 combat missions).  Most notably, he flew a bombing mission on Chichijima in Sept. of ’44 and was hit by AA fire but completed his bomb run before bailing out.

We know about Jack Kennedy’s heroism as skipper of PT-109.

    We know about Ike’s record.

And we know about W’s record.  Or do we?

So, the Republicans have two ‘certified’ War Heroes and a Supreme Allied Commander.  Not bad.

If I were the Republican Party, I wouldn’t want to tarnish that record with Mitt Romney (a 2-s and a 4-d ‘ministerial’ deferment during Nam), while ‘supporting’ the draft (for other young Americans) in the sixties.  He also got a high number (300) in the ’69 draft lottery.  Lucky fellow.  Must be one of Joseph Smith’s chosen.  Oh, I forgot.  Romney saw ‘action’ in high school and college where he assigned himself the task of making gay males ‘look presentable’ to the US military.  Are we going to see the spectacle next year of ‘Hail To The Chief’ being sung by a Barbershop Quartet?

  3. In addition to being a bad joke it is of course out of order.

Clinton should be before Bush then Obama.

You know put Bush Jr. where he belongs, back when the recession started and tax payer funded TARP bailed out the banksters.
