(I LOVE this idea, and just had to kick it upstairs! It’s time for Vermont Yankee to start thinking about re-deploying those valued employees its always talking about into a monitoring and maintenance team for a reactor on its way to dismantling. It’s time to brace the decommissioning fund, level with the stockholders and generally get their house in order for closure. Enough of the stalling and bluff brinksmanship. – promoted by Sue Prent)

By its decision to refuel the Vermont Yankee nuclear reactor, Entergy Corporation is making a bold and arrogant statement that they do not intend to abide by Vermont state law and the will of the people. The state of Vermont has served notice and on Sunday, October 30th, the people will serve notice. Its days of operation are numbered.

Perhaps they plan on asking for an extension until their f’n’ arson case in Brattleboro is solved. Dirty…
Simply a way to tie the issue up in the courts which could take years to resolve, designed to span election cycle(s) with the hope of a more Entergy Louisiana-friendly batch of legislators & governor.
They are well aware that the plant cannot run for more than a few more years, if that, w/o costly upgrades. Those costs would negate any profit. They just want to run it as long as possible & put another plant on the same site while very likely not undertaking the full & costly decommissioning of the present plant which could come to or top $1 billion.
The acres of stored nuclear waste with NRC claims of safe storage for 60+ years, merely means leaving the problem to future generations and into perpetuity. This & the ever-present hazard it presents is not what Vermonters agreed to or expected.
Pronuclear Entergy forces do not want to see VT move on to a future which would be based on efficiency, conservation & a renewable portfolio which would cause other states to recognize they do not need nuclear power, also have states rights, their own purview while understanding the limits of NRC & nuclear power companies their own states.
