That was the Vermont Trooper’s reply when asked if he had tried other methods to restrain an 86 year old man. ”No,not really” !
Should it be acceptable for the Vermont State Police to resort casually it seems to tasering an 86 year old man? Maybe a little review is in order.
John Simon was taken to into custody after he tried to bite and kick a trooper who responded to a report that Simon was allegedly trespassing on a property located on Ha’Penny Road in Peacham just before 5 p.m.
State Police Trooper Lyle Decker used the Taser on Simon because he was kicking him, said Decker in an interview on Monday. When asked whether the state trooper had tried to use any other way to restrain Simon, Decker replied “No, not really.” From the Vermont Press Bureau -paywalled

The most dangerous thing about tasers is the myth that they are somehow benign.
Perhaps as conditions for use, every cop armed with a Taser needs to have it applied to themselves first. At random times during training so they can’t anticipate it.
…is a taser just waiting for a rowdy old lady in a wheel chair.
Boy, there should be a movie: TaserMan Meets Godzilla.
Kind of reminds me of those old fifties/early sixties TV Westerns, where there were all these special weapons–The Rifleman, Wanted: Dead Or Alive, Yancy Derringer. Perhaps a time travel movie , where TaserMan is transported back to the Old West, or a religious epic, where TaserMan is transported back in time to Judea, circa 30 AD: “Take that, Jesus, you hippie bastard!”
An 86 year-old guy? Well, perhaps Tasers can be incorporated into the Death With Dignity pogrom.
