MONTPELIER – Today State Auditor Tom Salmon, CPA, wrote to Governor Shumlin and Attorney General Sorrell urging them to proceed without further politicizing the important energy issue at the expense of Vermont’s long-term fiscal planning.

“Vermonters deserve a state that works to make traction in strategic directions. Posturing and out-messaging the other side does nothing to promote a stable and attractive business climate. This process creates a risk to the financial stability of the state,” Salmon said.

  1. …his support of shutting down VY and aggressively investing in sustainable energy to create more jobs, cut energy costs and secure the financial stability of the state.

  2. What the hell is he trying to say??  I can guess, based on his previous vapors, but it’s certainly far from clear here.

  3. Too bad he knows nothing of strategic planning, and how positioning the state to be a national technological leader is exactly what we need to promote a stable and attractive business climate.

Clinging desperately to outmoded technologies in the face of disruptive innovation is the best known way to become economically irrelevant.

  4. That’s our man Tom Salmon and his own “Posturing and off messaging”letter.

He saw a potential “traction” opportunity for himself and fired off a Salmongram.

  5. Another radioactive fish trying desperately to swim upstream during the Spring highwaters.

  6. TS clearly envisions that being the sacrificial lamb in a no-win situation helps him long-term. I’m sure he’s looking at the age of our Senators (Peter can only take one of the seats) and thinking he’s got a shot if he can stir up some of that “take back Vermont spirit” and mix it with Tea-bagging.

This allows him to campaign for the senate, or Welch’s house seat when he goes to the senate, while putatively running against Shumlin next year. (Of course, he might actually win if life takes a strange turn or six.)

But for this “plan” to work, he has to maintain his name recognition without increasing his negatives (see Sarah Palin for “what not to do”). He can’t possibly get a majority of Vermont voters with the arrant nonsense that passes for politics in most of the country today. So, he sends out smoke signals that the right people can understand but never leaves a trail for others to call out.

Name recognition goes a long way, even in a state like VT. It’s obvious, since he won the auditor race last year while being the worst candidate I’ve seen in my adult life. That name recognition could take him to Washington if we’re not careful…

  7. What I want to say to Tom Salmon you wouldn’t print. I think a terrific strategic direction for Vermont is avoiding a nuclear accident tht would destroy the whole place and that the only company that is possibly worse than GE and Tokyo Electric is Entergy. No Nukes. When did we ever vote to give these corporations the right to destroy the atmosphere, the oceans and our health. Enough!

Renewables work– its just power politics and corporate greed in the way. Tom Salmon is clearly down with that. Down with Tom Salmon.

  8. as an elected official & state employee, astonishingly brazen. Disrespect shown to those defending VT against a ruthless & corrupt company, as well as the gravity of the entire situation, a complete disgrace.

VDP chair openly calling for Salmon’s resignation due to these types of actions should have served as a wake up call, as no matter the politics, these types of denunciations are not common. But he simply continues with his political grandstanding using all issues at every opportunity.

Given that he himself clearly injected politics, while oddly raising the issue & the main point of his disrespectful directive, he then comes off sounding sardonic.

the auditor has been telling everyone exactly who he is, in his own words. One can only hope thoughtful, sincere voters who care about our state & government will sit up & take notice.

Actions as a whole show him to be a mere politician who has no interest in serving VTers or the office elected to, but as a mere launching pad for higher office w/o proving his fitness or competence in his present activity, the communication to Shumlin & Sorrell is another example.

Hopefully, reasonable thinking conservatives, moderates & independents who would consider giving him a shot will observe his blurry vision for VT & recognize his unprofessionalism & disgraceful conduct @ the very least.

MONTPELIER – Today GMD poster niiru, expert in creating fake press releases, wrote a comment on GMD directed at Tom Salmon urging him to mind is own business, without further grandstanding.

“I understand Tom Salmon is pondering a run, possibly for the senate or governor seat, and I’m concerned that Salmon really shouldn’t be putting out short non-nonsensical press releases in an attempt to keep his name in the news. Furthermore, I’d really like it if he did something in the position he just was elected to so that we could be sure he was actually able to do a job before he asks people to vote him into another,” niiru said.

  10. He mentioned the decom fund. Interesting. Last week, I believe, there was a news story about the “fund”.

I get so overloaded w/stories & information I’m unsure if it happened or if it was a dream but I’m sure I read it.

    Anyone else see this?

Entergy is claiming to have overpaid decom fund & want a refund, credit or something. I will scour my Herald heap & try to find it.

  11. to Major Tom: you are the ‘auditor’, not the ‘audit or …. (insert whatever the flavor of the week is)

Do you really think your missives are helpful?

How about the PDF found in this link to Rep Welch? Written I assume on state time as it is on state letterhead:
