The keynote speaker at the Vermont Democratic Party’s March 19th fundraising event (the “David W. Curtis Leadership Awards”) will be Minnesota Senator and SNL alum Al Franken. It was announced at the State Committee Meeting that Senator Leahy had secured the participation of the Democratic Party superstar* at the VDP’s annual event (no word yet on who the award winners will be).
Crap. Now I have to shell out the money and go.

We were at the one with Claire McCaskill as keynote (doing some stuff for Deb), with Howie getting the big enchilada. She was actually pretty good, despite her Blue Doggishness. Al will be infinitely better.
E.D. Robert Dempsey announced at the VDP state committee meeting that Sen. Leahy had been instrumental in securing the appearance of Sen. Franken for the Curtis Awards Dinner. Sen. Leahy was not in attendance, nor did he call in to make the announcement.
The substance is right, just a little tweak on the process.

I’ll have to go, too.
Haven’t been to anything since the unity rally the day before I left for school, would be nice to see everyone.
Actually manages to invite people outside the inner-circle to this one, unlike the Gubernatorial Ball.
It would be REALLY nice if the party would either hire a company to do their web/communications work or bring on board a local professional who would hang around longer than one campaign season. The process needs to be professionalized. The lack of continuity hurts the party’s effectiveness.
First step would be to call the VDP office in Montpelier: 229-1783, and ask for E.D. Robert Dempsey and start a conversation about how to submit a proposal for the webpage. Treat it like an RFP (yes, I know there hasn’t been one, and an RFP at least provides parameters).
