While not directly confirmed as of yet, the word is that Emily Peyton has followed Ben Mitchell’s lead and, at Vermont Law School hosted gubernatorial forum held last night, dropped out of the race and endorsed Peter Shumlin.
She was my independent choice, and if she’s bowed out then it means I have no guilt about switching my vote.
It is, of course, all about me!
Thanks for the news, Morgan. 🙂
word also is that some ardent supporter of Peter Shumlin had urged Dennis Steele more than once to dropout of race and endorse him and apparently hinted a job in the administration might be available to him if he did so, at least this is being alleged by Dennis Steele anyway, here (via Second Vermont Republic; same blog post also confirms Emily Peyton dropping out and endorsing Peter Shumlin).
…it could easily increase his vote total by maybe two or three votes.
An enthusiastic supporter of Obama hinted that I could get a job in the next administration if I don’t challenge him from the left in the 2012 primaries.
Wicked. Awe. Some.
Terri Hallenbeck, reporting at the Burlington Free Press blog VTBuzz, also has the story. According to her report, the person who called Steele to encourage him to drop out of the race is Nancy Mallary. She has nothing to do with the campaign and she adamantly denies offering him a job.

Which makes Steele (or Naylor) what?
I just saw the YouTube that Steele tweeted (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3thtJmHJ-nc). I really appreciate Emily’s throwing her support to Peter, and being so positive about this race instead of just griping about access, negative politics, etc. I was a big advocate for her, and am now even more glad I backed her as we both have refocused our efforts to fight Dubie.
I would hope my friend Dennis would see the opportunity to take the high ground and move the window in a similar fashion, rather than making vague claims about being offered a job in a Shumlin administration for quitting. It does a disservice to himself, not to mention Peyton and Mitchell.
with only 2 days plus hours remaining to vote; this one is to help decide whom is the scariest candidate in the gubernatorial race, here (this might serve as another vehicle and good time to show a certain candidate they are well on a particular radar screen (read: homeland security; oh no, not the evil empire! nah, just citizens from all walks of life and across the political spectrum who are not interested in what would become nasty dictatorships, set up by a pack of rabid bullies as well as self-righteous and delusional whiners, much along the lines of “The Mouse That Roared”, however not as humorous in the same fashion as either the book or movie: i.e., sometimes ‘reality is stranger than fiction’, indeed. end of rant)).
in my opinion, Dennis Steele owes a sincere and humble public as well as personal apology to both Ben Mitchell and Emily Peyton for what he has accused them of as well as also badly using them in the process as he did in order to attempt to score political points against both Peter Shumlin and Brian Dubie.
This is only the latest example of him and his ilk doing such foul shenanigans however and it must stop.
He had no justification for doing so no matter what and he does not deserve to be elected to any office he seeks unless and until he learns to behave otherwise.
Shame on Dennis Steele.
Does Dennis Steele have no decency whatsoever?!
If he claims what he does and expects people to consider believing his side of the story, then he should make the original e-mail(s) sent to him by the supporter of Peter Shumlin available to the public so we can better ascertain the facts. In addition, if he made recordings of calls he reports having received from the same person, make the original recordings of these available to the public as well.
Otherwise, he should quit wasting our time.
