Autumn brings us an RV revival performance by Brian Dubie in his recurring occasional part-time role as Governor Jim Douglas’s co-pilot.
Believe it or not it’s being billed as the Pure Leadership RV Tour. Dubie, who some thought had been attempting to put distance between himself and Governor Douglas (they broke over wind power), is now taking a back seat to him once again as they ride the bus and tour the state.
Spreading it
As they travel Vermont’s decaying bridges and crumbling roads the two Pure Leaders invite the faithful out to join in what the campaign literature calls…
spreading Brian's message of controlling state spending, lowering taxes, cutting red tape, and expanding Vermont's economy to protect and grow jobs.
I went to the debate at St. Michael’s on Sunday. The Dubie Co-pilots had hand- made signs (along with those giant, 6 foot long green monsters, and like 200 smaller signs once again) asking Peter Shumlin to pay their speeding tickets, since he has worked hard and made some money. Republicans mocking a Democrat for having money, because, apparently, only Republicans are supposed to have money.
During the debate, Peter questioned the accuracy of a lot of those ads that Dubie has out. Every time Dubie said, “we have checked our facts, and double checked our facts”, he stared down, speaking to the table. Body language for untruthiness. I thought Dubie looked kind of sad throughout the debate. Cognitive dissonance will do that to ya.
If Brian is pulling Jim Douglas out on the campaign trail, I take that as a sign that he’s not makin’ it on his own, and has decided that he needs to, yet again, cling desperately to Jim’s coattails in order to salvage his political career.
