Follow up: AFL overwhelmingly backs Shumlin

Despite the underground machinations reported in this diary, the Vermont AFL-CIO endorsed Peter Shumlin over Brian Dubie yesterday.

A defeat for the Vermont IBEW leadership (and George Clain in particular) who, in a fit of self-destructive pique, have chosen to move beyond understandably advocating for rank and file employees at Vermont Yankee to become the loudest cheerleaders in the state for demonstrably anti-labor candidate Brian Dubie (and in the process, reducing themselves to the status of unpaid spokespeople for that champion of the workingman, the Entergy Corporation).

The next defeat for Mr. Clain and company comes in November.

  1. As a District Vice President and member of the Executive Board of the Vermont AFL-CIO I was impressed with the outcome of yesterday’s overwheming vote to back Peter Shumlin for Governor. The AFL gave their support to Shumlin because of his progressive stance in favor of single-payer healthcare, Project Labor Agreements, and card check.

Biran Dubie, on the other hand, wants to target the poorest Vermonters, slash social services, and give huge tax breaks to the rich. This is something that organized labor will resist on behalf of all working Vermonters. We will win!

Prediction: Shumlin Will Smoke Dubie in 2010!

Brian Dubie = Pure Vermont BS

  2. ensuring that the rank and file are remembered in the decommissioning plans and that Entergy doesn’t find a way to simply cut and run.
