Yes its been a slow start to the week here at GMD, but stuff is a-brewin. In the meantime, here’s an email that came to front pager Maggie:
I just got off the phone with a “pollster” about the campaign for governor.
It was the most amazing piece of crap I have ever heard. It included several anti-Shumlin push questions and three or four softballs for Dubie. The guy doing the poll laughed a few times at my responses and at one point said, “Please, don’t hang up on me now.”
Dubie says he’s going to keep the campaign clean but this is certainly an indication of how he really plans to run.
Such a nice evening.
A true “push poll” (which is “when did you stop beating your wife” style nastiness-propagation masquerading as an independent survey) would have to be targeting a whole lot of people to be effective, otherwise it’s likely to just be garden variety GOP message testing.
So the question is – how many others are getting these calls. Anyone? And can anyone supply some of the specific questions being asked in the comments?
I haven’t gotten a call, but last year they admitted push-polling.

As we said at the time:
So why wouldn’t they be doing it now?
I cannot wait until they call me. This will be fun:)
…this could be an outside group such as the RGA doing this without the knowledge of the campaign. Of course, we also have fairly strong evidence that the RGA and the Dubie campaign are coordinating some, so…
Classic slime and defend but with a petulant twist. The RGA (or whoever) is free for the slimming and Dubie (and Bliss) handle the whining.
Glad to know the proper terminology for the type of call that I also received last night. The caller identified that he was calling from J D Powers & Associates and wanted to ask me a “few” questions…I was aware where he was going after the 1st question and definitely enjoyed answering in the strongly affirmative when asked if I supported Peter Shumlin for Governor.
Anybody have a phone number, area code, anything for where the calls are coming from? Just curious for future reference…
I saw a Dubie ad on tv and wondered if the word “incentivizes” is even a word. It’s not in the dictionary, so I guess it’s one of these made up words. Or did this Dubie guy make it up in his own head? He isn’t a very good speaker if you ask me and teaching my kid a word that’s not a word isn’t helping.
A volunteer at our county campaign office said this evening that she got a call, too, that she clearly identified as “push polling.”
The thing is, there are no real penalties for this kind of stuff, so why not?

Don’t bother to give any examples of the questions.
Well, so far none of them have called me. The only calls I get are from democratic fund raisers seeking money. Of course, I only have a cell phone and am not listed in any phone books. But it would be fun if they did call me.
It might be time for Democrats to confront the image Dubie’s built up: “He’s so nice!” Response: “If Mr. Dubie is ‘so nice,’ why is he paying someone to say nasty things about Senator Shumlin?”
