Dubie the Debater: Whiny, Nasty and Confused

If you heard the VPR debate last night between Brian Dubie and Peter Shumlin (which you can listen to in full here), you may have been struck by how whiny Dubie was. For much of the debate, he seemed almost like a petulant – and often confused – child. It wasn’t pretty.

Here’s a You-Tubized version of some of the highlights:

  1. That would have been great fun to listen to if it were not so pathetic.  It’s Dubie on the defensive, penned in now and forced to think.

  2. This is a great video & post.  It shows why Shumlin should be governor & Dubie should not!

It is validation of the Dubie so many of us have seen or met during his time in the Lt. Gov. Office.  It is time for the public to see the real Brian!

It makes one wonder how he got elected and then re-elected again and again.  Time to clean house.

  3. but even a co-pilot* can remember the check list before take -off and Dubie hits on all similar themes the newest RGA ad takes on.

    Funny,that coincidence.

*Note to self:Possible new drinking game for gubernatorial debate.Take a drink every time Dubie mentions he is a pilot.

  4. …this is the first time he’s run for a public office that anybody actually cares about, and the first time he’s really been in the spotlight. He’s just not used to the pressure.

And no, it’s not the same kind of pressure as Being A Pilot. That’s kinda like saying that Dr. Johnson is an excellent surgeon, so why don’t we hire him to design that new bridge?

  5. The clip you’ve posted reminds me of one of the issues I had with the debate as I listened to VPR live on Wednesday evening.

Yesterday, I sent a memo to the Shumlin campaign and if I receive a reponse, I’ll post it here. My question to them is why haven’t they capitalized on what seems to be a difference of facts versus what Brian Dubie would have us all believe is a difference of memories or interpretations. While trying to rush to the next question and inadvertently avoiding an opportunity for actual debate, moderator Jane Lindholm stated jokingly, “you guys can read it (the Governor’s state budget) after the show and send out dueling press releases”. Yesterday I eagerly awaited these “dueling press releases” and to my utter amazement there were none. Not from Peter. Not from Brian. Not one media report I read addressed it either.

The two candidates for Governor of the state of Vermont stood toe to toe and called each other liars and yet neither the campaigns nor the media followed up to provide clarity.

Does anyone else find this curious?

  6. It appears our Lt. Governor has the capacity to do more than one thing at a time, as long as it’s not talking about his stance on women’s reproductive rights.

Brian apparently has time to pull himself away from what he coined the only “social issue” of Vermont, jobs, to “greet Senegal President Abdoulaye Wade on Sunday at Burlington International Airport and join him at a dinner at Vermont National Country Club”.

The invitation for a visit came from the Lt. Governors brother, Michael Dubie, who has stated that he is aware of Senegalese human-rights issues, but he also stated, “I haven’t read the latest report”. The report he may be referring to was an Amnesty International report charging that Senegalese security forces practice torture without facing legal consequences. In addition there are also reports by the U.S. Agency for International Development and in May by U.S. Ambassador Marcia Bernicat, in reference to a $540 million U.S. development grant to Senegal which alleges the nation of Senegal is corrupt.

So, women of the state of Vermont, don’t expect our Lt. Governor to be diverted from the issue of job creation with your needless “wedge issues” that “drive Vermonters to separate corners quarters of the room”. However, when foreign dignataries visit, Brian Dubie appears poised to brush all thoughts of job creation aside to eat a posh dinnner at the Country Club.

    Awesome.

  7. Another issue Shumlin’s campaign needs to address that arose from the debate Wednesday night is Brian Dubie’s statement that there is federal law protecting a woman’s right to choose. In fact, there is no such federal law and any a candidate for the executive office in the state of Vermont should know this fact.

  8. Dubie kind of sounds like Elmer Fudd when he’s shaking and stammering. I almost wish I had a cartoon head so I could make that head shaking movement with the sound effect. This guy makes no sense. I hope these people with these Dubie signs in their yard are listening to these debates. This guy knows more about G forces and wind velocity then he does about Vermont. Please wake up. This guy is no James Didless.

  9. to get some cheese for all that whine whine whine.

To quote a great teabagger, put your man-pants on Brian.

I like the way Shummy is playing this guy.  It’s great to see a Democrat with fire in his belly, and liking a fight.  So unVermont!
