I am going to imagine Jim Douglas never got elected and Brian Dubie was full time airline pilot no one had heard of.
But we all have different imaginations .
I’m strongly in favor of IRV, and it seems likely that it would be less prone to the kind of situation we’re in now, but in theory the same thing could happen, couldn’t it? After the “elimination” rounds, the final two candidates could be left with, say, 50.1% of the vote and 49.9% of the vote – raising the possibility of a recount. Or am I missing something?
