Interesting post just came up today on Seven Days regarding Susan Bartlett’s non-appearance at last night’s gubernatorial debate.
Cathy Resmer’s post even shares Brian Dubie’s whereabouts.
See it here: http://7d.blogs.com/blurt/2010…
Apparently, the Democratic candidate for governor was scheduled to be at a gubernatorial candidate debate, and she passed up the opportunity to spend a few hours hanging out with members of the VTSDA and the Vermont Biosciences Alliance on the Spirit of Ethan Allen III. The event, incidentally, was sold out.
Check out the other people Resmer spotted on the lower deck:
State Auditor Tom Salmon, Lt. Governor hopeful Phil Scott, Secretary of State candidate Jason Gibbs, and Lt. Governor and gubernatorial candidate Brian Dubie among the attendees.
Why shouldn’t Sue hang out with the same people she hangs out with at the statehouse? She mine as well be one of them. She was probably there to let her homies know that she’s going to be needing a new job.
The candidates were sincerely surprised that Ms. Bartlett was not there. They all assumed that she had some mishap and couldn’t call us (no cell service). Turns out they were wrong, and she just blew it off. Kind of a mistake in a town (Strafford) where 80% of people vote, and 80% of those vote Dem/Prog.
However, she was not missed. Quick takes:
Markowitz is competent. If well run government is your thing, she tells a good story there.
Shumlin is a backroom fighter. If you want someone to punch back when Dubie punches, he’s certainly the right guy.
Racine just makes more sense on more issues than the rest of them. For example, he pointed out that supervisory union costs are less than 2% of overall education spending, so all those consolidation plans are just re-arranging deck chairs.
Dunne is well spoken and has good energy. My 22 year old is attracted.
Racine won a vote from my wife. I wound up liking Shumlin more than I thought I would. Markowitz has run a successful government agency. All of them are more qualified than Dubie. I’m probably not going to make up my mind until Monday night.
Posted by John Bauer: Bartlett planned to attend the debate, but a personal matter came up that had her in Williston until 6 pm, too late to make it to Strafford.
I notified Sherry Merrick immediately, before noon as I recall. She responded “Thanks.” I assumed she would notify the attendees of the forum. She thought my email was from a different source and did not make the connection.
Bartlett’s attendance at the dinner with Vermont software developers was our plan “B.” We were surprised to find the VTGOP had a fundraiser on a different deck of the boat.
