  1. Essex Town started a similar type school, but for middle school aged students (4th – 8th grade).  Here is an old article that kind of sums it up:  http://www.wcax.com/global/sto

    The students wrote a grant (and it was accepted) for solar panels for the school (http://www.essexreporter.com/EssexReporter/Students_Get_Solar_Grant.html).  The basic idea of the school is that the students decide on projects they want to work on, and then use all the appropriate grade level expectations to achieve the goal.   Any GLEs that aren’t met by the work on the project are taught explicitly.   This is the end of the first year of the school; it will be interesting to see how it develops over time, and how the students coming out of the program re-integrate into Essex High School, which is a rather traditional HS, and what skills the students bring to their future learning.
