For those still seeking the first sighting of the elusive Spring Dubie replete in all its campaign plumage, Facebook only provides an unsatisfying glimpse:

Well press on and one can find word that he will be headlining a symposium at the end of next month. The promo for the Vermont Tiger May event notes that “He [Dubie] has long been interested in new ideas and innovative policies to promote economic growth in Vermont and was a panelist at last year's ‘Compete or Retreat’ symposium.” Compete or Retreat indeed.
During the recent budget debate, Dubie was absent and didn’t preside over the State Senate for two days. That Dubie actually missed a chance this week to practice governing and deal with the very problems under discussion at the symposium is worthy of notice.
He also canceled a scheduled candidate debate appearance for April 28, featuring middle-schooler’s questions. The debate had already been re-scheduled once to accommodate him before he finally ducked it.
If it is true, as the overworked saying goes, that 80% of life is just showing up, how should we rate Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie’s campaign?
But the man who would be Waldo in the current Vermont gubernatorial campaign will ride a friendly Vermont Tiger on May 25th.
The symposium promises to be mostly free from the probing questions of 7th and 8th graders as it will cost $95.00 per person to attend. Dubie will deliver the morning address at the symposium called Crunch Time, which will deal with the “very serious and immediate economic challenges facing the state and discuss reforms and routes to prosperity”.
Judge not?
Sharing the bill with our Lt. Governor will be Fox News personality and former Judge Andrew Napolitano. The judge is a familiar face on Fox’s O’Rielly Factor and has substitute-hosted for Glenn Beck on occasion. Judge Napolitano led a Sept. 2009 Forth Worth rally in support of Glenn Beck’s 912 Project. A rally press release described the event:
The 912 March and Rally is a non-partisan event connecting friends and neighbors who are fed up with the direction this country is headed, want to preserve the U.S. Constitution and limit the government to the powers granted therein.
We encourage everyone to bring signs for the March with words showing their frustrations with the policies and direction this country is headed.
Will tea bags be part of Dubie’s campaign plumage this year?
That is truly a great line.
I think all of our energy should be used to define who Brian Dubie is opposed to complaining about him not showing up. If he can’t be bothered to show up let’s define him. Think about all the opportunities we have to say:
If given the opportunity Brian Dubie would revers Marriage Equality
Brian Dubie supports Vermont Yankee – leaks and all – 100% w/out question
Brian Dubie is being supported by extreme right wing political operatives from Virginia
Brian Dubie would cut school staff leaving our children at risk of not receiving a quality education
You get the point. Let’s not waste space talking about him not showing up. He’s not going to show up no matter what we do. We don’t need to spend time rehashing that. Let’s just get right to it and put him on the defensive. He is allowing US to define HIM. Lets take him up on the offer.
A suggestion: Start a Facebook page that is called Who is Brian Dubie or something to that effect. Think about how many friends you would have in a minute. Then anyone that was friends with this group could post stuff about him and put some pressure on him.
Dubie headlining the Tiger rally is little more than a gathering of like-minded naysayers. No one in attendance at this gathering will vote for anyone except Dubie. Thus there is no gain for his campaign; except perhaps an extra hundred bucks for the campaign from a few of the attendees who are already in tune with the Dubie hymnal.
One does have to wonder, however, if the five Democrats would have attended if invited; or would they have asked to have the date changed and then at the last minute decided to cancel for a family trip?
Doobage doesn’t need to announce his economic plan because this Bartlett person is doing it for him.
Militaristic slogans don’t solve real problems. It’s ironic that they who rail against the evils of government would choose Douglas Lite as a rallying figure. Remind me again which party has held the governorship in Vermont for most of a declining decade now?
I wonder where My Pet Goat is on his reading list…
Following Common Sense’s lead in defining Dubie – Sue’s “Man without a plan” is a great place to start!
Dubie was defined by an an empty chair at the debate.
In May he will be the one seeking the comfortable shelter of a Vermont Tiger symposium with a Fox News tea party promoter.
He is defining himself as a right-lightweight.
Isn’t the Lieutenant Governor’s schedule available as a public record? Or is it just the Governor’s schedule?
If a mere public records request could dredge that schedule up, like wow, we’d suddenly know what he’s supposedly doing – officially. Does anyone know?
More fitting:
“Duck & cover”
“I wasn’t there”
“I’ll get back to you on that”
