Perhaps you’ve caught GMD’s latest publicity stunt? It’s part of a series we’ve developed for a catchy, vaguely serialized promotion using a consistent character who will come to be associated with our brand in the public eye. In fact, it’s modeled after the highly successful Geico “caveman” ads.
The idea is we create a rabid right-winger – you know, sort of a stereotypical tea bagger sort – and have him rant against the site by shilling in free forums, raising our profile among like minded lefties to get a good chuckle. More than that, though, is – if we may be so humble – the real genius of the promotional campaign. Our rabid mascot doesn’t just inveigh against GMD’s embrace and promotion of a lefty perspective, he’s highlighting how seriously and widely GMD is read, and that serious Democratic candidates – including all five candidates for Governor – frequently post here to reach our readers.
In this way, our target demographic gets the message that we’re not only a no-nonsense progressive political site that drives the right crazy, we’re also more than just your typical blog, and what we do here is a real part of the political discussion.
Anyway, it’s going great. Each iteration of the promotion that’s run so far has increased GMD’s hit count. We’re all looking forward to taking the campaign as far as we can.
Here’s the most recent entry in today’s Free Press: http://www.burlingtonfreepress…
You can compare that with our initial launch of the campaign in the Times Argus (in which we also mentioned one of our reader awards): http://www.timesargus.com/arti…
What do you think, dear readers? With the success of this, our first foray into newspaper-based publicity, what should be our next promotional project?
I think GMD should correct a flaw in the the character of Mr. Cashman. I find it hard to suspend my disbelief that a person of such moral and righteous integrity would send letter(s) to a place as demeaning, racist, and disrespectful as the BFP and the Times Argus. Perhaps Mr. Cashman should read the comments on the BFP and the Times Argus. If he did, would he be so high and moral and righteous to pull his letter(s) and lash out at those very Vermonters who leave comments and letters and editorials dripping with hate and intolerance? Would he call them out and demand any politician not run ads, editorials, etc. in those fine publications?
Clearly, someone of such principled moral standing wouldn’t want someone to think that he agrees with the folks who leave comments, write letters, and opine in those hallowed pages.
The ol’ injured party ruse!
Miss one staff meeting and you never know what might happen!
Some of my friends still think the folks at GMD are a clique of Puritan lefties. HAH.
This is from the TIMES AWFULS’ letter from the GMD Mascot from last year:
Puritan lefties my ass! You folks are just another bunch of Madison Avenue HoseBags after all.
STUPID! I have absolutely no respect for anyone that thinks this appropriate and even less respect for anyone that thinks strategically this is a good idea for anything but self promotion and ego stroking for GMDers.
I am appalled that this is being done shortly after a post about how “we are (our side) supposed to be better then this”
There are more important things in life then how many “hits” you get on your blog.
Let’s see, GMD is equal to Stormfront, oral sex between consenting adults is equal to Bush’s war crimes, gay marriage is the same as bestiality, calling the willfully and intentionally ignorant and arrogant tea-bagging set “rednecks” is the same as dropping n-word and f-word bombs on blacks and homosexuals, health care reform is the same as Soviet- style communism, Obama is the same as Stalin, Fox News is the same as real news, etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum.
Ad nauseum.
And immorality, pure and simple.
Alexa says traffic on your site is ranked 527,321 in the US.
Stormfront.org is ranked is ranked 3,402. Glennbeck.com is at 1,426, even though many of his viewers/listeners can’t even read multi-syllabic words.
Hannity.com comes in at 3,136. Rush Limbaugh’s melange/smorgasbord of hate – negro- homo- xeno- and femi- phobia – pushes rushlimbaugh.com up all the way to 988. “Fair and Balanced” foxnews.com comes in at 184 – between 3 and 4% of all internet users land on foxnews.com (your traffic is significantly less than that).
The hate ladies (they don’t mind if you call them ladies, they are quite demure) do pretty well, too – michellemalkin.com comes in at 1,837, lauraingraham.com at 21,648, anncoulter.com comes in at 45,598 (I bet she’ll get a nice bump this week for telling that Canuck Muslim teenager to fly her magic carpet next time she needs to go somewhere).
They all get GOP pols (and full-blown-crazy DINOs like Zell Miller and Eric Mazza) all the time on their shows/sites to come in and suck up to their hosts – Dick Cheney is a regular on Fox, and Sarah Palin is now on the Fox News payroll!
So – if you don’t mind turning GMD into a toilet (and really, really, really dumbing-down your content), you could make some serious bank…
