Referring explicitly to one of Obama’s campaign pledges, a reporter asked {House Speaker] Pelosi whether C-SPAN cameras would be allowed to film the House-Senate [health care] negotiations.
“There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail,” she said, without addressing the question.

Today I got a fundraising letter that said something like “Can I count on you to follow through? – President Barack Obama” or something similar. I wrote in the letter “About as much as I can count on you, Mr. President.” and sent it back.
A politician on the campaign trail not following through with their promises once s/he gets into office … and some of you wonder why some of us aren’t Democrats.
…not following through with his/her promises once in office is, by definition, a…politician.
I am being unfair to congressional republicans here, perhaps. They all promised each other to always vote and always vote “no,” in this session and so far, they’re being true to their word. I believe that in the hindsight of history, this will most likely be regarded as a blip.
I never bother computing the ratio of promises to performance. I DO look at the ratio of solid attempts to opportunities. Obama isn’t cutting it in either area right now.
