Patience

Some photos are worth waiting for.

This Great Blue Heron was hanging out at Allen Brothers Marsh, and looked like it was stalking something, so I gave myself a little time to wait and see what would happen.

I was not disappointed.

A bunch more photos after the fold (all of them are smaller versions; clicking on them gets you to the larger ones).

  1. … a beautiful heron who frequents the pond across the street from my house. They are magnificent birds and these pictures are just excellent.

We also have a trio of cranes that have been here seasonally for three years now, or so. Not sure exactly what kind of crane, though.

  2. Julie,

These are wonderful!  Your photos should be required in schools along with a tape of the sounds each bird makes, so that kids could begin to reconnect with the precious environment around them.  Just looking at them helps to clarify the connection between the environment and our actions.

    Breathtakingly beautiful.

    Thanks!

  3. I was out kayaking today and had a heron soar overhead, legs tucked up underneath it, and glide in for a landing not far away from my boat.  It was quite a sight.  That bird just made the flight seem so effortless.
