GMD Third Birthday Extravaganza Diary Index and Trivia Contest (UPDATED with trivia answers)

by: odum

Sat Feb 14, 2009 at 06:00:00 AM EST

(Bumpbed back up to the top. - promoted by JulieWaters)

Yes, three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.
  • Total number of GMD diaries (as of the writing of this diary - includes all user diaries and draft diaries that might never have made it): 4020
  • Total number of GMD diaries by Jack McCullough alone (as of the writing of this diary): 101
  • Total number of GMD pageviews (give or take...no site meter for the first month): approximately 1,332,000
  • Most unique visitors to GMD in one day?: Approximately 32,000 (to view this diary)
  • Highest user ID number (as of the writing of this diary): 1044
  • Very first "real" GMD diary? VT Anti-Choice Forces Hitting Town Meetings (Wed Feb 15, 2006 at 01:13:45 AM EST)
  • Number of diaries that used the word "impeachment": 309

And now, for the trivia contest! The first folks to get right answers into the diary comments win the prize listed below. At least until I post the answers, then the game is over. And I'll do that whenever I get around to it. Let's say late Monday (and no, front pagers are NOT eligible. Buy yer own GMD schwag).

Hard trivia question: What was the first prominent national blog to put a link to GMD on its blogroll? PRIZE: A GMD bumper sticker!!! (Answer: MyDD.com)

Really hard trivia question: What local political figure stepped up to speak for Vermont Democrats by saying the following about GMD - "some of the local Dems are starting to get turned off on this site and the hate that is begining to spew here" ? PRIZE: A GMD mug!!! (Answer: Former VT GOP Director and current head of the housing section of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, Tayt Brooks!)

Super-amazingly hard GMD trivia question: When the blog first started, there were four people who agreed to be front pagers - myself, kestrel9000 (then blogging under the username Ed Garcia), Jack McCullough, and 1 other person who never posted a diary, and informed me a couple weeks in that she just couldn't make the commitment after all. Who was this person? (Note: There's no way in hell anybody could know this... I don't know if Jack would even remember, so just go for the wild guesses - you might get lucky). PRIZE: A GMD sweatshirt!!! (Answer: Former Windham County Democratic Committee Chair, Lynn Bedell!)

But they don't link to GMD. Hm. What's that on their blogroll? mydd. Oh yeah. mydd links to GMD under "Vermont". And GMD links to mydd.

I can't speak for all of GMD, but...

... I've never made reference to Monty Python movies or sketches, obscure or otherwise
... I've never written a diary that has had more than 39 comments to it (um, 48 diaries with a total of 382 comments for an average of 7.9 comments per post)
... I've never referenced any of the mentioned mythological characters
... I've made 645 comments so far- boy do I need to get a life...
... My account was registered on October 3, 2006, which does mean I've been coming here over two years.  Interestingly enough, my first post on GMD was bent around calling Odum to task for his bizarrely conservative interpretation of the media's bend regarding a particular issue.  If he keeps up with his angle of late, expect several more pieces from me following Odum's subtle and surprising conservative bend...

Dude, I haven't done anything "sudden"ly since I became a parent.

As for "conservative bend", you've got me mystified... can't wait to hear more about that... unless this is still about your insistence that the DNC is some sort of policy think tank. If so, I'll just offer you a polite yet patronizing pat on the head and a smile :)

"Sudden" (0.00 / 0)
Who said "sudden"?

Over the past few months you have come out against organized labor, against the more progressive candidate for Speaker of the House, and for increased security at the Statehouse... like I said, I'll be writing more about these issues in the future...

Be polite and patronizing all you want- I got six months 'till I'm a parent.

geez (0.00 / 0)
Ah, you said "subtle." Thats what I get for skimming.

1. What are you talking about "against organized labor?"

2. In re: Speaker - I've never thought it was just about policy. I never supported Kucinich for example. No change from me on that front.

3. Putting aside for the moment whether or not one's assessment of the necessary security at the statehouse can be divided into "conservative" or "liberal" (a ridiculous, essentializing, and very slippery-slope-ish assertion), you really, honestly, believe that my desire to withhold judgment because of personal experience with the person who runs the security at Statehouse is a "conservative bend?" Really? Are you really, really gonna stand behind the idea that good lefties ignore the personal? Don't let human relationships cloud the purity of their absolutist, black and white, one size fits all condemnations? Geez, dude. Thought you were a crazy anarchist. That's crazy marxist talk.

See, what I've been wondering is why you're finding bizarre little things of late to try and cast me as some sort of raging conservative. I figure all that needling you get about why you deign to associate with such a dirty rotten sellout Dem from another or two of yer buddies is gettin' to ya... in fact, I'd bet on it.

Heh.

Nullius perfectus est

[ Parent ]
Well (0.00 / 0)
I was meaning to be a bit hyperbole and sarcastic, with only a touch of seriousness.

1.  I do not believe you are "against organized labor", though I seem to recall you were fairly dismissive of their endorsements during the election and cast them as irrelevant- my recollection is you cast the labor movement in general as irrelevant.  I should dig back through to get exactly what your angle of those conversations were, but I'm just not going to spend that time.

2.  Fair enough; not that I necessarily agree, but true, you are consistent here.

3.  One's assessment of the security at the statehouse is going to be generally oriented around a "conservative" pro or indifferent angle or a cautious or anti angle- not black or white, for sure, but general orientations.  I didn't read you as withholding judgement as much as defending.  I entirely agree that the personal element is important; but liking someone and thinking they're a decent, well-meaning person isn't the same as agreeing with their political orientation (take you and I, for instance).  True, "good lefties" don't ignore the personal, nor do they appreciate or support the security culture.

As far as "finding bizarre little things", I'm just being antagonistic, in a devil's advocate sorta way, since I think that can make for good debate and conversation.  You just tried to call me out about my anarchist vs Marxist orientation- certainly a "bizarre little thing" in its own right (though not unfair or inappropriate, as far as I'm concerned).

I'd like to know what you're willing to bet regarding your theory of me reacting to being nudged by anyone about participating here... because you're 100% off-base.  I don't run in the anarchist ghetto, where the kinds of people who would make such a critique reside.  I come here because it's informative, and because I'm a wonk for political conversation and debate- which this site has plenty of.  Other than people who I've met through GMD, I think JD is the only one of my friends who is aware of me participating here- and of any others who do know I'm here, they've never said anything to me at all, and, well, would only know I'm here because they're here too.  Which would hardly be a strong position to criticize from.

-In America the people fear their government; in France, it is the government that fears the people

Well, now I know how to blackmail you...

Actually, what I'm really waiting for is an angry marxist to respond to my statement.
