Time to Deliver

(Continuing the policy of promoting diaries from officeholders and officeseekers, with some copy bumped below the fold. - promoted by odum)

Hey GMD: Today, I sent out an email to my supporters. Wanted to make sure you had a chance to be involved too.

Papers across Vermont and across the country are reporting on the troubling radiation leaks at Vermont Yankee. While Vermont’s water and land are being poisoned by high levels of tritium, our governor’s response is to call for a "timeout."

A timeout?! We don't need a timeout; we need a "No" vote, and we need it now! It’s time to close Vermont Yankee.

Before you get frustrated, take a look at another thing: The map below. 231 Vermonters from across the state have signed onto this petition. Every day we gain more momentum. Now, it is time to deliver.

Deb Markowitz :: Time to Deliver

In two weeks, we will take the names we have gathered and send them to the Governor and leaders in the House and Senate.

Before that, I need you to send this petition to your list one more time.We know thousands of Vermonters want to see a vote on Vermont Yankee to enable a responsible transition for the plant employees and to provide a safer, and more prosperous energy future for Vermont.

Grassroots organizing is how we will move past Vermont Yankee to better jobs and better energy. With your help, it’s also how I will win this campaign! I believe democracy is everyone’s responsibility. Thanks for letting your voice be heard on this critical issue.

Is this the same Deb Markowitz who recently went to a labor function and rhapsodized about how she cut her employees? Clueless.

Wait, what? (0.00 / 0)
I am NOT going to sign this petition because I want VY shut down.

The legislature does not need to vote in order to shut down VY.  In fact, in order for VY to receive the license extension, the legislature must act and vote to approve.  If the legislature does NOT act, then VY will never receive that approval.

I don't want the legislature to even take up the question.  As long as the legislature does nothing, then VY won't be relicensed.

This whole scheme of Secretary of State Markowitz is backwards, and not informative.  Vermonters need to know that there does NOT need to be a vote in order to ensure VY is closed.  This whole petition does NOT clearly reveal the facts.  I assume Secretary of State Markowitz is a smart person, and therefore knows full well that this post and that petition are disingenuous.

Shut Down VY by NOT voting on VY.  It's just that easy!

Getting Done (4.00 / 2)
The point of voting NOW is to get the issue off the table before Entergy has time to weasel, buy, lie its way into pushing a vote later. Vote now and we're done, there will be no later vote after the propaganda has had time to percolate.

Plus, voting NOW takes advantage of a Democratic majority that has shown it will override Entergy's spokeman, er, Entergy's Governor.

Strange that (0.00 / 0)
On a day when Deb jumps on the issue of the day for press attention...albeit about a month late in terms of leadership potential,

Someone else jumps on the wagon of preserving the integrity of our elections....and it isn't the Secretary of State, who supposedly is the point person for that issue.   ????

Day late and an issue short...  It would seem that Mr. Dunn wins the issue of the day contest...  And with some really valid objectives...

There is more to running for office and gathering votes..... than gathering money and endorsements..

In fairness to Deb (3.00 / 2)
I'd just like to point out that she posted a similar appeal here on January 26.  I believe this is just a follow-up to that one.

Whoops, issue confusion. (0.00 / 0)
I see that you were referring to a different issue altogether, hoopmeister.  Sorry for jumping in here before a careful reading of your post.

sorry (0.00 / 0)
that it needs to be so carefully read... English is not my primary language... yet...

[ Parent ]
Nope; your English was perfect, Hoopmeister. (0.00 / 0)
I just read too quickly and assumed it had to do with Vermont Yankee.
